How to be “powerful beyond measure”

Yesterday morning I woke up thinking about Marianne Willamson’s epic quote “Our deepest fear”. It’s one of those things that I go back to whenever I find myself stuck in an existential crisis. I kept getting caught on this part:

I thought to myself what does it mean to be powerful beyond measure? Well firstly we are all powerful beyond measure. We don’t have to earn it. There are many things in our lives especially as millennials that can lead to a sense of overwhelm and even hopelessness, but we need to remember our power. It’s immeasurable. It’s all encompassing. It’s in the minute details and it’s in the most epic moments. Every single second, we have the ability to access our power. It becomes easier when the mind, body and soul are well taken care of because that’s when we have an acute sense of self awareness and most importantly self acceptance.

Mind.

We all know the importance of having a healthy mental state but how seriously do we take it? How often do we explore our thoughts, why they are the way they are and where do they come from? How often do you think about your decision making process especially when going through life’s difficulties? I certainly have had difficulty in the past few years and I believe it’s because I’ve never really explored how I can help my brain with the tools to cope and process when things are not going well. We are heavily burdened with expectations and if we don’t meet them we can easily spiral. So finding a place where you can still aspire to something but detaching your worth to that which you want to achieve can change everything. It’s important to take care of your mental health, even if you are happy. Our minds are extremely powerful how we nurture them can make an abundant difference in our lives.

Body.

Growing a little older I’ve realized that the body needs just as much as attention as our minds. It’s the vessel that has to help bring our dreams into fruition. If we treat our bodies badly and take for granted what our bodies do every single day for us we can find ourselves unable to achieve the highest expression of ourselves. A few months ago I injured my finger in an accident and I grew so frustrated with how long it was taking to recover, but I realize just how much patience our bodies require especially when we treat them poorly. These days I treat my body like an athlete would treat theirs. I don’t necessarily train like an athlete but I’m acutely aware of my body’s function and how important every single part is. We don’t all have to be that meticulous but I find that when I express gratitude to even the smallest part, my body responds with enthusiasm to help me get to where I need to be.

Soul.

The culmination of the mind and body is within the soul. I like to think of it as my inner universe, where all things are created. If whatever I do (no matter how laser focused I am about it) does not sit well with my soul I always end up having to give it up. If you read my blog posts frequently I think about purpose and fulfillment a lot. There’s an episode on Oprah’s Super Soul Sunday where  Gary Zukav author of “Seat of the Soul” gives the definition of authentic power. He says,”when the personality comes fully to serve the energy of the soul, that is authentic power.” And that to me makes so much sense because our personalities are not by accident, and how we use them to serve our inner soul creates that great sense of fulfillment. That means whether you are baking a cake, playing kickball or performing at the SuperBowl if you feel your personality match the core of your soul that’s where you feel most powerful.

I have to keep reminding myself that this all matters, that remaining in authenticity and gratitude matters because that’s my power and yours too. It’s important to remember our light because “as we let our own light shine, we unconsciously give other people permission to do the same. As we are liberated from our own fear, our presence automatically liberates others.” And that my friends is the greatest super power of all.
